HOMEBOY SANDMAN - Illuminati
With the new album out, Homeboy Sandman has been working hard at bringing us new visuals. He dropped this new video today and I feel like this is the song that puts him on the map to stay. Listen more than once because you can't possibly absorb all of the messages on the first pass. "We used to beat on Bush, but now he's not around so people found another bush to beat around..."

Brene Brown: The Power of Vulnerability
Brene Brown speaks about vulnerability and the human condition. This research professor, from the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work, has spent the past ten years exploring vulnerability, courage, authenticity, and shame. The first five years she spent focusing on shame and empathy, but has, more recently, been using her findings to explore a concept she calls Wholeheartedness. In this talk, brought to us by Ted, she poses the questions:
How do we learn to embrace our vulnerabilities and imperfections so that we can engage in our lives from a place of authenticity and worthiness? How do we cultivate the courage, compassion, and connection that we need to recognize that we are enough - that we are worthy of love, belonging, and joy.
I truly hope that her message reaches more people. Perhaps then we could see that our current state of isolation and separation, do to our differences and life anxieties, is actually our common denominator. Together we could accomplish so much. This topic truly embodies The Spirit of Collaboration.

THE WEEKND ft. DRAKE - The Zone
New video from The Weeknd featuring Drake. For those of you not familiar with his work, this guy makes straight baby-making music. Slow beats under his soulful crooning make for a recipe to success. His first full album, Trilogy, is slated to drop on November 13th, so keep your eyes and ears open.
DIPLO ft. JAHAN LENNON - About That Life
Diplo teamed up with Jahan Lennon to make this psychedelic track that feels like it's right outta the 70's. Lennon is a former member of the now deceased Mad Decent group, Popo. Trippy feel and hippy vibes blanket this video and the song is sure to be stuck in your head for days to come.

STEVIE WONDER - Never Dreamed You'd Leave in Summer (Outside Lands 2012)
This was truly a once in a lifetime experience. Front row to see Stevie Wonder at Outside Lands this past August. It was a long grueling day of being smashed from behind by the gathering masses while trying to fight the urge to pee for hours. We posted up before noon at the main stage, right up front against the retaining wall. Many acts had to be seen before the man. Acts such as Allen Stone, Fun, Franz Ferdinand, Regina Spektor, and Jack White all graced the stage while i was only a few feet away from the stage. Amazing shows were put on by all of them, but the headliner blew them all away. Stevie didn't go on till around 8pm and everyone was getting antsy and restless. His music and voice made all of the discomfort fade away. He performed hits such as Higher Ground, Isn't She Lovely, Mon Cherie Amore, and even covered other great hits by Michael Jackson, The Beatles, and John Lennons' Imagine. This song resonated with me however and I was practically in tears as he sang. I'll never forget this show and how I felt that weekend. Thank You Stevie

CEE-LO GREEN - No One's Gonna Love You
This song, originally performed by Band of Horses, was covered by Cee-Lo for a mixtape he put out awhile ago. We had posted this video, but, do to the adult content, it was removed. So i'm reposting it in honor of Band of Horses and Cee-Lo. What powerful lyrics and what great visuals to go with them. I think we've all felt this way before and can easily relate. If you have a chance, also go back and listen to the original version. Good stuff!!
THE BUDOS BAND - Black Venom
One of my favorite hidden gems is The Budos Band. This afro-soul group, known for its' soulful horns and funky Ethiopian inspired beats, is part of the Daptone record label family. Since 2005 they've released three full albums and an EP. This track, from The Budos Band II, is titled Black Venom. They put down such a uniquely dope sound that Jay Z has taken notice and even worked with members from this band from Brooklyn, New York. Enjoy.

DANNY BROWN - Grown Up (Scion AV)
Danny Brown - Grown Up (Scion AV) from Scion A/V on Vimeo.
Danny Brown takes us back to his childhood in this innovative video. Great concept for a great beat. Scion always puts out gold and this collaboration is no exception. The kid portraying Danny even looks like a little Danny. Same hair, same swag. The story supposedly explains how he got his signature grill. Danny also recently did an album with Black Milk, entitled Black and Brown. Check it out.

HOMEBOY SANDMAN - Not Really
We love some Homeboy Sandman around here. We loved him when he was doing mix tapes and hangin with 2 Hungry Bros. We loved his first album, The Good Sun. But when he signed with Stones Throw a couple of years ago, they slowed down his rhymes with their typical mellow beats and it adversely effected the sound. At least that was the general consensus about his first two EPs with the new record label. First of a Living Breed is their first full album and they've got the formula down now. Love this track. Love this video. Same basic Sandy from around the way. Two thumbs up!!
FLYING LOTUS - Putty Boy Strut
Video from the new album Until The Quiet Comes on Warp Records. Flying Lotus doesn't disappoint in the least. Always comes with the most innovative visuals to go with his other-worldly sounds. Featuring Erykah Badu, Laura Darlington, Niki Randa, Thundercat, and Thom Yorke, this album promises to be a winner.

JJ DOOM - Guv'nor
MF DOOM and Jneiro Jarel have teamed up to produce a new album called Keys To The Kuffs. The super duo named JJ DOOM is a match made in hip hop heaven. Jneiros' beats compliment the unique off beat rhyming scheme of DOOM. Check out the innovative split screen and mirror techniques utilized by director Ninian Doff. Then go and check out the entire album, which is sure to keep you coming back for more.

LUPE FIASCO - Bitch Bad
Video from the new Lupe Fiasco album, Food & Liquor 2: The Great American Rap Album. The title is a mouthful, but i'm overjoyed that Lupe's found his way back to his roots. Classic story telling rhymes over dope beats. His last album, which I won't even bother naming, really lost me and everything about this new journey tells me that he's found his way back home. Not only does this song bring up major issues with our sexist society, but also touches on racial borders, through use of blackface. Powerfully charged and impossible to turn away from, this is Bitch Bad.
MAJOR LAZER ft. FLUX PAVILION - Jah No Partial
Major Lazer is back to his old ways with this latest single from the upcoming album, Free The Universe. Diplo and the crew over at Mad Decent Records know how to put together a filthy, dirty beat that gets the body moving. Already drooling with anticipation of the new album.

JHENE AIKO - My Mine
The amazing Jhene has sang for everyone from Kanye to Drake to Kendrick Lamar. She's getting her first album together now, but, for those who couldn't wait to get their hands on her music, she's released a mixtape entitled "Sailing Soul(s)". The L.A. based singer receives love from all of those big names she's worked with and more. Addicted to the beats and hooks, but her voice haunts my mind both day and night.

NENEH CHERRY & THE THING - Accordion (MF DOOM/MADLIB cover)
Three decades after her 80's hit "Buffalo Stance", Neneh Cherry has decided to step back into the limelight. The swedish daughter of jazz legend Don Cherry has teamed up with norwegian free jazz trio The Thing (not Ben Grimm). The collaboration has an album set to drop on June 19 called The Cherry Thing. This video is track 5 of 8 and features a cover of the Doom/Madlib hit "Accordion", off the Madvillainy album. Night vision only enhances the bizzare idea of scat jazzing MF Dooms' lyrical genius. Peep it!!

TUPAC at Coachella 2012
Everyone got an extra special surprise on Sunday night at Coahcella...Tupac! Well his hologram at least. On top of the quasi-eerie realistic hologram of the legendary Pac, the crowd was also delighted by the Nate Dogg tribute and appearances by Kurupt, Whiz Khalifa, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent, Tony Yayo, and even Eminem. They should've named it The Dre and Snoop Super Show. Thus proving old doggs can learn new tricks.
The Internet ft. Left Brain - COCAINE
Another video from Syd the Kyd and Matt Martians band The Internet. This extremely ethereal trip picks up where The Fastlane ended (previous post). Can't stop listening to the album they released back in December, Purple Naked Ladies. Imagine if Prince needed a modern day backup band and it was supplied by Pharrell...if you can do that, then you're almost at The Internet. Golfwang!

Quakers - FITTA HAPPIER feat. Guilty Simpson & M.E.D.
Quakers is project years in the making. Geoff Barrow (Portishead), Katalyst (Aussie producer/Space Invadas), and 7-Stu-7 (Portishead engineer/Invada Records partner) enlisted help from the likes of Guilty Simpson, M.E.D., Prince Po, Aloe Blacc, and Dead Prez. Phew!!! If that's still not enough to entice one to buy this album, which dropped on March 27, the fact that Stones Throw Records is the label putting the album out should. As one of the homies said, "Album of the year".
Homeboy Sandman - Mine All Mine
New song from Homeboy Sandman from his 1st EP, with Stone Throw Records, Subject Matter. Another feel good joint from Sandy. I will miss his previous super-speed spit stylings, but his new mellowed out vibe is right in line with his new label. It will also likely help most folks understand and appreciate the lyrics coming outta his mouth. Lookout for his new album Chimera, due out later this spring.
